There are a variety of mop heads on the market to suit a wide range of requirements. The choice of mop depends on a number of criteria: the size of the area to be cleaned, the hygiene level required, the level of soiling and of course the time and budget available to complete the job.
We have put together the below as a guide to the many types of mop stocked by Avanti. If you need more assistance in choosing the correct mop for your application then please contact a member of our fully trained sales team and we will be happy to discuss the options with you. A special note about PY cotton mops: these should not be used for applying polish to floors as they shed fibres (called ‘linting’) that will spoil the finish.
Sometimes known as a 'Dolly Mop', these mops fix to a standard 15/16" wooden handle (push on). White mop head with colour coded plastic socket for hygiene. Available in a choice of Cotton Pure Yarn or Twine, and in two different mop weights, 200g (No.12) or 300g (No.16). Other sizes and yarn weights available by special order - contact us for details.
Please note that for hygiene critical environments, Avanti does not recommend the use of the more traditional metal sockets and wooden handles. Wood is prone to splitting and splintering, and can also stay damp, harbouring bacteria. For this reason we recommend that plastic sockets are used with aluminium handles, which are durable, easy to clean and can be colour coded to match the mop sockets. Consider the Hygiemix Mopping range instead, which fits with a colour coded Abbey Hygiene handle. What’s more, the Abbey Hygiene handle is compatible with a number of other products (such as the Flat Mop, Hygiene Squeegee, Hygiene Deck Scrub and Hygiene Broom), to save you having to stock a range of handles.
Hygiemix Mopping System
Hygiemix yarn is produced from a unique blend of bleached cotton and high performance synthetic fibre, and offers much better resistance to wear and tear in use, compared to traditional mopheads. The looped ends of the mop reduce linting, and also mean greater floor coverage for reduced mopping times. The mops can be removed and laundered as required.
The Kentucky Mop has long been known and favoured for its great ability in picking up or laying down large amounts of liquid. These long tail mops provide maximum floor coverage. Standard Kentucky Mop Heads available in a choice of Cotton PY or Multi-Yarn, and in a choice of weights, 12oz, 16oz or 20oz. Our Kentucky Mops have a 50mm centre band as standard, for easy fitting to traditional metal or plastic Kentucky mop holders (sold separately).

The Exel Socket's unique design permits most handles to be either push fitted or screw threaded. The superior push fit socket design ensures that removing and replacing the mop head is a simple task. Opt for an Exel handle for the perfect fit, however the Exel fitting is compatible with most handles as it will screw its own thread. This fitting will even take a wooden handle. The Exel fitting is also available on the new technology Exel Revolution Socket Mop, which has looped ends and stayflat bands for outstanding performance and is made from Hygiemix yarn. For a superb disposable mop where hygiene is critical, opt for a Big White Socket Mop, again with the Exel fitting – a hygienic, lightweight alternative to traditional cotton, far more absorbent and with no shedding of fibres like cotton PY. The Big White is made from spun lace synthetic yarn and is extremely cost effective.
Avanti stocks the Robert Scott Flat Mopping System, traditional cotton/synthetic mix flat mops for a combination of performance and durability. The flat mop stocked can be used with bucket and side gear press wringer, such as the Speedy 20L bucket. Flat mop compatible with Abbey Hygiene Handle - colour coded handles with screw fitting.
