Advantages of Microfibre
Microfibre offers a new solution to traditional cleaning, which requires the addition of both water and chemicals to work effectively. Thousands of tiny microscopic fibres actively lift up dirt and grime and keep it locked in the cloth until rinsed with water, leaving surfaces ultra clean. Microfibre wedge-shaped threads have more than 40 times the surface area of normal fibres. These threads trap dust and dirt and clean more effectively than traditional cloths. Microfibre is also excellent for cleaning greasy surfaces without scratching. Microfibre cloths will leave the surface clean and smear-free and will give quicker results than with a conventional cloth. What’s more, there is no need to use chemicals – removing the need to handle potentially hazardous substances. Microfibre cloths can be used dry or slightly damp for better results. When damp, capillary action and surface expansion allows for optimal cleaning ability.
Caring for your Microfibre Cloths
Microfibre products are extensively washable and highly durable – they will outlast most cloths made from natural fibres.
Avoid bleach and fabric conditioner as this can block the microscopic pores.
What is Microfibre? - The Science Bit
- The thickness of microfibre is finer than 1/100 of a human hair
- Each thread is split into 16 or 17 micro-segments by special physical and chemical treatment
- Fibre becomes microfibre when it weighs less than 1 gram per 10km of length
- For most microfibres this equates to a diameter of 0.13 denier or less
- Robert Scott's microfibres are produced using two polymers, which combine to form a single thread made from 70% polyester and 30% polyamide (nylon) - sometimes known as Ultrafibre
